Meet Thanut Kean Self Employed | Local Tour Guide in Siem Reap, Cambodia

I was born & raised in Siem Reap. After attending university, I returned to my hometown to work in the tourism and hospitality industries. With this experience and my local roots, I realized I had something unique I could offer visitors and provide a fuller picture of life in Khmer 🙋🏻‍♂️. I have been leading independent tours for 3+ years.

I am so excited to share my beautiful home with you! 🏠🇰🇭✨️

Discover Siem Reap

Siem Reap, the heart of northwestern Cambodia, is not just a gateway to the world-famous Angkor ruins—it’s a place brimming with history, culture, and charm. While Angkor Wat, the stunning temple that appears on Cambodia’s flag 🇰🇭, steals the show, Siem Reap offers so much more than just this iconic landmark.

Fun fact: Did you know that the name “Siem Reap” is believed to mean ‘defeat of Siam’? The town’s name is thought to date back to an epic moment in history, when King Ang Chan defeated an invading Siamese army in 1549. While the exact details might be a bit of legend, it’s a story that adds to the mystique of this vibrant town.

Whether you’re here to marvel at the ancient temples, explore the lively markets, or taste some of the best Khmer food around, Siem Reap welcomes you with open arms. It’s a place where history meets adventure, and there’s always something new to discover around every corner 🤍☁️🍃✨️

"We contacted Thanut very spontaneously just three days before our visit to Siem Reap. He not only managed to find time for a tour to the floating village and countryside, but also arranged a guide for Angkor. Let me start with Mr. Sok, who spent the whole day with us exploring the temples. We have to say we were truly impressed. He didn’t just share fascinating stories about the temples, Hinduism, and Buddhism, but also patiently answered our many questions about Cambodia’s history—questions not everyone would be willing to answer. We will be forever grateful for finding Mr. Sok for us. He spoke very good English, and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Thanut himself turned out to be both a friend and a guide to us. He agreed to do two tours in one day so that we could make the most of the short time we had in Siem Reap. He also helped us organize the rest of our stay and patiently and passionately answered all of our many questions. It was absolutely wonderful! From beginning to end, we felt great in his company. He tells incredibly engaging stories, chose fantastic places for us to visit, and knows everything about Cambodian life and what goes on in the floating villages. He talked about eating tarantulas, Cambodian traditions, and things we never found in any guidebooks. Thanks to him and Mr. Sok, we’ll remember Cambodia with warmth and longing for a very long time. We wholeheartedly recommend Thanut—he welcomed us to Cambodia with such warmth. You won’t be disappointed".
